Overview:
This has been designed as a simple-to-use, easy & no driver installation required setup for cue-based playback systems, including QLab, MultiPlay, Show Cue Systems.
This device has three simple, always illuminated, buttons: Stop, Pause and Go. It connects to a PC or Mac via a simple data-capable USB-C cable and requires no external power. The device appears on the device as a MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) input under the name “DPW Trigger Box”.
It’s up to you to map the MIDI buttons to the correct functionality in whichever software you’re using, however this is generally a simple task which will take about 2 minutes. I have created a guide further down this page of how to get setup when using the most common theatre playback software, QLab.
Technical information:
The device outputs the following via MIDI: GO (3), PAUSE (4), STOP (5)
Velocity: 127
Channel: 1
QLab setup with DPW Trigger Box:
Every time you create a new show file you must complete the following steps, it only takes a few seconds.
• Connect a USB C cable (capable of data transfer) to the port on the back of the device.
• In Qlab, go to the “File” menu tab and open “Workspace Settings” and into “Controls” on the left vertical bar. Open “Workspace MIDI” and enable the tickbox: “Use “Musical” MIDI Voice Messages”
• For each of the buttons on the unit: Go, Stop, Pause; press “Capture” next to the appropriate button as below:
Go (green button) should be mapped to “Go”
Pause (amber button) to “Pause All” and also “Resume All” (if this is the functionality you desire)
Stop (red button) to “Panic All”
